Description

This online course focuses on Challenging Behaviour In Dementia.

People with dementia sometimes behave in challenging ways. By understanding some of the factors that may cause these types of behaviours, you can help prevent it occurring regularly and better manage the situation when it does.

The symptoms of dementia vary (depending on the cause and the individual), but often include memory loss, mood changes, communication and motivation problems, a reduced ability to plan and problems with controlling their own behaviour.

Some symptoms, such as restlessness, agitation and communication difficulties, can be challenging for carers, and this can cause high levels of stress and burden.

In this course, you will explore these challenging behaviours and find out how other carers manage them both at home and in a residential care setting.

It is designed to help you develop a clear understanding about dealing with agitation, psychosis and depression in people with dementia, as well as effective techniques and strategies for dealing with challenging behaviours using a person-centred approach.

This course has been developed using latest guidance from the medical and nursing Royal Colleges, the Department of Health and National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
